Diplo Slapped with €300,000 Fine Over Illegal Rave in Ibiza Nature Reserve
International DJ and producer Diplo has been hit with a €300,000 fine following a rogue rave he hosted in one of Spain’s most environmentally protected coastal regions, according to Diario de Ibiza.
The penalty, confirmed this week by the Department of Activities in Ibiza, stands out as one of the largest sanctions ever imposed on the island for an unauthorized event. The party, held in June 2024, attracted hundreds of attendees to Cala D’Hort a picturesque beach located in the municipality of San Josep de sa Talaia on Ibiza’s west coast. The gathering had been promoted extensively through Diplo’s own social media channels.
Perched on cliffs with sweeping views of Es Vedrà, a rocky islet within a Natura 2000 zone and a designated Area of Special Natural Interest (ANEI), the site is recognized for its ecological sensitivity. Authorities described the area as “vulnerable,” citing serious concerns over wildfire risk and potential environmental degradation linked to the unsanctioned event.
Despite strict regulations prohibiting parties in the protected region, Diplo reportedly encouraged attendance through posts on Instagram, where he shared footage of a sizable crowd dancing on the beach.
Local officials and the Ibiza Leisure Administration quickly condemned the event for flouting legal requirements and environmental protections. The Spanish police launched an investigation shortly after Diplo’s set.
As of now, the artist has yet to release a statement regarding the fine or the ongoing inquiry.
