Is Your Favourite Party Spot Going Dry? The Balearic Islands’ New Alcohol Ban Explained!

Big changes are hitting Ibiza and Mallorca, and it’s all about curbing the wild nightlife. A fresh decree just kicked in, putting the brakes on alcohol sales after 9:30 PM in key party zones.

Starting this past weekend, places like San Antonio in Ibiza and Magaluf in Mallorca are under total prohibition from 9:30 PM to 8:00 AM. But don’t worry—bars, restaurants, and clubs are exempt.

Why the crackdown? Officials are fed up with rowdiness and excessive drinking in popular tourist spots. If you’re caught drinking where you shouldn’t, get ready for fines up to €1,500 (£1,290), as reported by the BBC.

Authorities are keeping a close eye, with sanctions tracked and reported to embassies. They’re even stopping boat parties from coming within a mile of restricted areas.

These new rules build on a 2020 law targeting “anti-social behaviour.” The Balearic Islands Tourism Council hopes this tough approach will change behaviours by 2024.

Expect these restrictions to stick around until at least December 2027. Some businesses aren’t thrilled, predicting tourists will head elsewhere for drinks, according to Sky News.

This move marks Europe’s first major alcohol sales restriction in tourist areas—a bold step in reshaping the party scene.
